Tangram Geometry Puzzle

Designed for children’s shape learning: begin with drag-only matching, then gradually introduce rotation, reflection, and part-to-whole reasoning.

🧩 Starter levels use drag-only play; every piece is already oriented correctly.

Drag the seven ready-oriented shapes into their matching outlines. Correct pieces snap into place.

📘 Tangram Strategy Guide

1

Find the main structure

Inspect the longest and widest silhouette edges first. They often reveal where the two large triangles belong, sharply reducing the options for smaller pieces.

2

Begin with drag-only matching

Starter pieces are already oriented, so children can focus on size and outline. Advanced levels then introduce rotation using 45, 90, and 135-degree edges.

3

Handle the parallelogram last

The parallelogram is the piece most likely to require a mirror flip. If its position and angle look right but it will not snap, select it and use Flip.

4

Read negative space

When internal guides are hidden, study the empty shape left between placed pieces. Its outline often reveals the size and orientation of the next piece.

❓ Tangram FAQ

What are the basic Tangram rules?

Use two large triangles, one medium triangle, two small triangles, one square, and one parallelogram to reproduce the target silhouette. A correctly aligned piece snaps into place.

How do I rotate or flip a piece?

Starter pieces are already oriented, so children only need to drag them. Advanced levels add left and right rotation, while mirror flipping first appears in Challenge levels.

How many levels are included?

The game has 30 focused levels: Levels 1–10 use drag-only matching, Levels 11–20 add rotation, and Levels 21–30 introduce mirror flips and tighter snapping.

How is the Daily Challenge generated?

The current date creates a stable silhouette, orientation, and mirror state. Everyone receives the same challenge on a given day, and it changes automatically the next day.

What if I cannot see how the silhouette is divided?

Use Show guides to reveal the seven piece boundaries briefly. Placing the two large triangles first often establishes the main structure for the smaller pieces.

Can I challenge a friend without an account?

Yes. After completion, Invite Challenge opens the header share dialog. Its URL stores the puzzle seed and result so a friend can replay the same silhouette without signing in.

What skills does Tangram practice?

Tangram uses mental rotation, mirror recognition, part-to-whole reasoning, and spatial planning. Performance also depends on screen size and control familiarity, so it is not a standalone ability test.
